The Machines
The Tom Smith Studio has three types of pilates machines:
The Reformer Bed
The essential pilates machine where most of the work is done
lying or sitting on a sliding platform with springs of varying
gauges. |
 |
The Trap Table (Cadillac)
The machine that uses swinging spring and bar apparatuses resembling
a trapeze. |
 |
The Half Barrel (Spine Corrector)
The machine that creates a more efficient use of the spine and
further enhances correct posture. |
 |
Types of movement
The body is limited by anatomy and gravity, so
many physical regimens draw upon similar movements. Pilates uses
yoga and classical dance shapes in a dynamic fashion. In balancing
onešs body frame on the machines, the muscle groups are activated
in push and pull rhythms.
What's working
The mind, body and breath are in concert to create
a holistic physical experience. Pilates strengthens the stomach
while creating spinal facility and proper spinal alignment. Arms,
legs and head also can achieve full range of motion.
